CTB bus stolen by private bus conductor

Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - A private bus conductor was arrested last morning by Bandarawela Police on suspicion of stealing a SLTB bus which had been parked at the Bandarawela main bus stand for the night.
The 34-year-old suspect was a resident of Ettapitiya estate in Bandarawela.
The SLTB bus belonging to the Wellawaya depot and operating on the Bandarawela – Matara route had been parked in the bus stand and was scheduled to leave for Matara the following morning.
The suspect who arrived at the bus stand after consuming liquor had boarded the bus and slept there. The following morning he had started the bus and driven it along the Bandarawela – Colombo main road and proceeded to Welihela area through Diyatalawa and left it by the roadside.
Investigations revealed that he had hit a car at Haputale and sped away. During investigations, the police examined the CCTV recording to identify the suspect.
