Nearly 6,000 COVID-19 infections have been reported within seven days showcasing the higher transmissibility of the Omicron variant which is spreading rapidly across the country.
According to Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) statistics, 829, 827, 840, 845, 838, 877, 891 active cases have been reported since last Wednesday (19).
Although the number of COVID cases is on the rise, the number of COVID fatalities remains at a low level.
The highest number of daily cases reported was 891 yesterday (25) after two weeks.
As such, the total confirmed cases in Sri Lanka stands at 603,654 of which 576,540 patients have recovered from the virus.
Meanwhile, around 7,500 PCR tests and 5,500 RATs are conducted daily.(Sheain Fernandopulle)
