The COVID-19 virus is currently under control in the country, but all health measures taken to control the transmission of the virus from person to person should be continued, Environment Ministry Secretary Anil Jasinghe said.
He made these remarks while addressing a briefing at the Environment Ministry on the procedures to be followed for the prevention of COVID-19 diseases.
The government had instructed every institution to seek the services of a health officer for COVID suppression, Dr. Jasinghe said.
"At the same time, patients are still being reported in New York City. In the UK, about 100,000 patients are reported daily. We have faced a lot of difficulties in the past because of COVID-19. Our country, our people, and our institutions have faced great difficulties.
At the same time, we were able to act in a way that did not harm foreign exchange earning institutions such as our Board of Investment as well as exporting institutions, " he said.
"The Omicron virus is spreading worldwide these days, and is less effective than other COVID strains. At present, there is some control over the COVID-19 epidemic in our country. Even if a certain number of patients are reported, the reduction in mortality is a good thing. The reason is that the effect of the virus gradually diminishes, " he said.
Therefore, personal distance should be maintained. Should wearing face masks, using hygienic fluids, and cleaning hands be used as a tactic to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
