Colombo, May 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned former Executive Director of the National Lotteries Board, Tusitha Halloluwa to record a statement over the alleged defamatory and false statement made regarding President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Police said the CID is investigating into the incident following a complaint.
On Monday, a complaint was lodged with the CID against Tusitha Halloluwa by Attorney-at-Law Akalanka Ukwatta on the President’s instructions, with the involvement of President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma for allegedly making a public statement using President Dissanayake’s name in a manner that damaged his reputation and character.
The complainants have called for an immediate investigation into both Halloluwa and the social media activists who circulated the statement online. They have also urged legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation and defaming the President.
Accordingly, the CID has summoned Halloluwa at 10.00 A.M tomorrow to record a statement.
