CID launches probe into fraudulent emails circulating in Director’s name

Colombo, Feb. 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation after fraudulent emails were circulated falsely claiming to be from its Director, Shani Abeysekara.

The department has officially confirmed that these emails were neither issued nor authorized by the CID. The messages, sent from the addresses [email protected] and [email protected], are believed to be intended to mislead the public, commit financial fraud, or unlawfully obtain personal information.

Police said the CID is working to identify the individuals or groups responsible for sending the deceptive emails and to take appropriate legal action.

The CID has urged the public to exercise caution and avoid sharing any personal or confidential information in response to messages from the above-mentioned addresses.
