Colombo, Feb 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into allegations surrounding MP Namal Rajapaksa's participation in an examination at the Sri Lanka Law College.
Police said the Citizen’s Movement Against Fraud, Corruption, and Waste filed a complaint with the CID, citing irregularities in Rajapaksa’s exam as highlighted in an interview broadcast on the 'Bostonlanka' social media network.
The acting Inspector General of Police has directed the CID director to thoroughly investigate the matter under the Criminal Procedure Code.

Why don't you people just stop and think for a moment and do something worthwhile for a moment? Why don't you try and bring some investments in without trying to divert attention away from the truly important matters like the dire economic situation and the stalling of development plans? This is not the purpose why majority of the voters sided with you - yes corruption should be investigated, but that's should never be the main news! Just read backwards - all we have except for investments going out or electricity issues are news about you people going behind Rajapakshe's without having any success at all. You try to hoodwink people by talking about 59 million of Rajapakshe money after accusing them of stealing 400 billion USD!! Don't think that all are morons!!!

True, the new govt has to tackle more important matters relevant to the public but equally certain pending cases should also be followed to prevent the previous set of rogues who are just waiting to come back again.

PATIENCE WILL BE REWARDED, STAY THE COURSE. Friday, 14 February 2025 03:06 PM
KINZA. INVESTMENTS DO NOT COME INTO ANY COUNTRY LIKE DONATIONS AND OR FROM COUNTRIES THAT HAVE AN AGENDA THAT WILL MOVE FORWARD IF THEY INVEST. REAL INVESTORS HAVE TO STUDY SEVERAL SITUATIONS AND DATA, DO THEIR OWN FEASIBILITY STUDIES AND A WHOLE HEAP OF IMPORTANT DECISIONS TO MAKE. JUST BECAUSE A NEW GOVT COMES IN, DOESN'T MEAN TO SAY FOREIGN INVESTORS ARE READY TO JUMP IN AND INVEST BILLIONS. NOOOO IT NEVER WORKS THAT WAY, THERE IS FIRST A NEED FOR COUNTRIES/INVESTORS TO COME IN DEPENDING ON WHAT THEY WANT TO INVEST IN ETC, NO INVESTOR SIMPLY JUMPS IN AND COMMITS TO X AMOUNT OF $$$ FOR THIS PROJECT. TIME WILL TELL, WE THE PEOPLE NEEC TO BE PATIENT. WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY ARISES THE GOVT WILL LAUNCH INVESTIGATIONS NO MATTER IF BIG OR SMALL, AS WE MAY COME INTO INFO AND OR TIMES WHEN CORRUPTION IS INTERTWINED WITH ANOTHER MATTER THAT COMES UP ( GENERAL ASSUMPTION). ANURA AND NPP HAVE BEEN HANDED OVER A PICKLE WITH 100S

What makes you think the govt is not tackling the more important matters along with their main manifesto condition of looking into past crimes and wrongdoings. The latter is news because it is public consumption but the more important matters are being done silently in the background. Wait patiently till June.

Firstly, News is not created by government. Investors don’t just fly in. Land and infrastructure is needed to be set up. Previous governments did nothing except trying to make a buck. New government is working on these and setting things up. Legal aspect is going on in parallel. If some don’t understand these things well what can one say?

Halo Dilkushani, any investments brought in by the NPP government, so far nothing. They intact protested against many investments in the past. This AKD is doing a teledrama. His ministers are just actors , recently we saw one guy visiting a burnt factory at Horama and then holding a fire horse for the camera.

Your comment is not only delusional but also dangerous. The best way to install investor trust is to bring the perpetrators of massive corruption to justice. They must first clean clear out the surface before laying down the foundation. You sound like someone still sour about the people you supported losing the election. The kind of views you're peddling will only keep the country in the same muddy hole it's been in since Independence.

Who said that investments can be brought just like buying a toffee from a shop? You need firstly a strategic plan based on Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats analysis (SWOT) to decide as to what the best options of foreign investments for Sri Lanka. That no government can do in just 92 days after being elected. If you rush too much may end up with few investments which may not be beneficial to the country and people. Also in bringing investments MOU has to be signed between Sri Lanka and the other nations. You know already one MOU was signed three days ago between UAE and Sri Lanka. What Kinza has is akin to guests who are at a homecoming of a new couple just few days after marriage asking, Where are Babies?

Genuinely interested investors will not invest in countries with corrupted politicians. It is important to uncover such powerful people as an examples to future generations...

Very simple, apart form who wrote the exam, check if there is any evidence like attendance sheet of this fake lawyer ever attending law college. If he had attended law college, surely he should be having batchmates-there seems to be none

I am with Gamini's comment. Spot on. Check his attendance. Check if he had enrolled at the Law college. Ask who are his classmates. Who was the Principal and staff when he was a student. When he gives the names check with the staff. They will surely remember him as he was the son of the President.

Before elections everyone shouted hoarse about BR, Mr Udayangas MIG deal etc and about GR ruining the economy. But now since they have taken a back seat and is not a threat to the government they are targeting the younger Rajapakses. So it is not about the country's wealth but who is our (NPPS) biggest headache at elections.

It is not about personal matter of any politicians but rather it’s all about national integrity in education and we are blessed country to have such a beautiful education system and it is well designed and cohesive education system we have in the greater interest of this country: to damage that education system with any false or crook manner with a political influence is an insult in our education system and it’s done to inflict harm and damage in our education so, judges must read this from this perspective: our education system has been from primary to PHD level to appreciate and recognise the talent and skills and knowledge: that is a universal principle in education: smarter and higher intellectual with good IQ in any field is given a recognition and appreciation: yet to damage this scrutiny of education to find the most qualified person in any examination is immoral and unethical: if he has tired to get his PHD from back doors he must be accountable to this and yet his wish ,,,

"blessed country to have such a beautiful education system" You must be joking.. people from this education system only ruined this country. Go back and critically analyse what happened to Sri Lanka from independence.. its the so called educated elite that ruled the country that created this mess.. I am not talking just about the politicians.. but the educated bureaucrats, doctors, engineers (e.g. CEB).. all these are educated people!!!

AKD visiting some vpuntries and bringing nothing but media Pacha show.

Although NPP leaders boasted during the election campaign that when they get power, they will bring charges against Rajapaksas for stealing US$ 50 billions. They also said they will bring charges for aiding and abetting attackers of Major General Janaka Perera and his wife and 28 politicians and civilians in October 2008 at Anuradhapura and also Easter Attackers in April 2019. NPP leaders also said they will bring charges for killing of Lasantha Wickematunga and Thajudeen and many others. The NPP Government is hopelessly short of gathering evidence for those acts. Now to cover their faces, NPP Government is taking charges such as money laundering of Rs. 15.0 million by Namal and 4 others (Rs 3.0 million for each person) and the way Namal did his exam in the Law College. NPP leaders will not be able to prove any of these charges in the courts either.

By the government probing unncessary individual achievements of politicians this is going to have a backlash when a new government comes into power and there won't be an end to this childish nonsense. My question is that professionals who have proved themselves are appointed at various levels of the Universities, Law colleges etc and there is a board who adjudicates all these activities and if there was something wrong this should have been brought to light at that time. By getting a complaint filed by members who curry favour with this government to gain some satisfaction it should be stopped. This could recur to the present day politicians as well in power once they lose their power where a complaint could be made that the Thesis was done through plagiarizing of PHD's obtained of the students in the past and the qualifications will be downgraded. Jealous people are the one's who want always to create trouble for others but they little realize when the "Bell Tolls for Them"

The only thing this government can do and should do is bring these kind of culprits to justice. As a matter of fact, there is very little the government can do with relation to economy and other matters. But getting rid of these kind of goons and thugs out of the way is national priority. The Rajapakshas and thier Rogues aids destroyed our economy/ lifted racism to a new level and demolished what a decent society calls accountability. So this government should try them in courts of law / police and wherever possible to get the robbed money/assets and hold them accountable for all the crimes they have committed. If the only thing this government does is this... Masses will be more than happy and would keep them in power for time to come.

Namal said that he did not wrote the examination alone in a secular place. That is true . He wrote the examination , in a separate room with one Mr. Rodrigo who was the head of the law college at that time. Then any one can easily imagine what has happened.

Why don't you check his DNA to see if he is actually MR's son, why not check his marriage certificate to see if it is a fraud, why not check his body if he has got any communicable dangerous disease, why not spend the whole 5 years focusing on this family and spend all government resources for this and then publish everything for the amusement of voters. Forget about all other economic issues or developments. Just focus on this family and bring back the money they have stolen which NPP said they know where it is hidden. AKD and his MPs said USD18 billion will be brought back.

At STC in the late 40's and early 50's, I failed Tamil in the SSC, twice. Had to leave school at age 17. I know of a class-mate who failed the SSC in Tamil, but passed it a year or two later, taking it privately. His father got another person to sit for the exam and he got a Credit. So cheating is not new, getting caught is. (only because he is the son of a famous man)

Good show, now Namal is trapped very badly for cheating the public and cheating himself showing that he is a Lawyer. If he has a backbone, tell Namal to produce his GCE (Ord. Level) Exam result sheet to the media? No he did not get through his GCE O/L, believe me.

Yes you are correct. Namal did not get through his O/Levels then how comes he sits for the Law exam. The whole world knows that Mahinda arranged a Senior Lawyer paying him 15 million to write the exam on behalf of Namal. Now that Lawyer too is missing in action. See how Rajapakshe murderers can do anything throwing their looted money.

This is just another act that NPP Government is doing to show the people in Sri Lanka that it is doing something against Rajapaksas who stole huge amount of public funds and murdered political and personal enemies. Although NPP leaders had promised to do something against Rajapaksas before the election, it has not been able to do anything against them so far.

This action shows how much bankrupt is NPP leaders. When they campaigned during elections they boasted that they will catch all the political robbers and the political criminals. Spending so much time and money and time to find if a certain person has passed the final Law Examination in a fair manner 10 years after the exam is ridiculous. This action also that the NPP government cannot find any other action wrong with former politicians. If NR comes out clean, NPP will totally lose any thrust placed on them by people.

Probably he needs his dad's help to do this. Dad is no longer in power. He is driven to be in a situation where His voice is muffled . Namal is in the deep end with no skills of survival..
