COlombo, September 4 (Daily Mirror) - All electricity workers, including engineers, have decided to launch a work-to-rule campaign from tonight in protest against the restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), which they claim is not in line with the provisions of the Electricity Amendment Act.

CEB Engineers’ Association President Dhanushka Parakrama said all trade unions of the Board had jointly decided to begin this trade union action based on 24 demands submitted to correct the restructuring process and safeguard employees’ disciplinary rights.

He added that the Power Minister had failed to provide a favorable response to the concerns raised by the employees, leaving the unions with no option but to resort to trade union action.

“If the government continues to ignore the issues of the employees, all CEB trade unions will not hesitate to intensify trade union actions,” Parakrama warned.

These unions survive on CEB employees subscriptions and they lookafter the interests of their members with unreasonable demands.They do not like restructuring

The CEB officers are not encountering bigger issues comparatively to Other state sector officers. They are receiving fat salaries than other state sector employees along with the bonuses. Some engineers are surreptitiously running small scale hydro power stations and solar panels in order to earn extra money. Even during the working hours certain lower grade employees are engaged in the house wiring and the minor repairs of the private institutions so that the extra income is to be increased in addition to their normal salary. In terms of other state sector employees the employees who are holding different posts from the bottom to up in the CEB are well privileged and well paid. Therefore under the pretext of false demands. If the employees of the CEB are resorting to the trade union action it should be unreasonable and vindictive

Do what JR did in 1980 general strike. Fire The strikers of CEB and treat them as vacated THEIR POSITIONS. AM PRETTY SURE MOST CEB EMPLOYEES NOT FAMILIAR WITH 1980 GENERAL STRIKE. MOST LIKELY THEY WERE NOT BORN THEN. REPLACE THEM AND IF YOU CAN'T GET REPLACEMENTS RECRUITED FROM INDIA. CEB UNION MEMBERS ARE MANIPULATED BY OPPOSITION. AND THE CEB UNION LEADERS GETTING MONEY FROM OPPOSITION TO STAGE STRIKES. DON'T ALLOW SOME RUFFIANS TO DICTATE TERMS TO THE LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT.

The most hated lot in the country, think they are above other workers. Like previous government sack anyone who sabotages. These people having a good life for too long when the rest of the country is suffering.Restructure has to happen whether they like it or not.
