Colombo, May 11 (Daily Mirror) - Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya, Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), has reportedly submitted his resignation letter.

A prominent energy expert, Dr. Siyambalapitiya was appointed to the post on September 26 last year under the NPP government of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

This is good news. There had been a conflict of interest as he also involved with private companies in the power and energy sector. Was he playing a double game from the start? As a expert on electrical generation, transmission and distribution he should have taken steps to stabilise the grid when roof top solar was and being deployed with no consideration on effect on the CEB grid.

In first place you should never appoint a person who hailed with a conflict of interest to helm of any organization. Secondly there should be a non biased progressive person as chairman who most importantly does not have any baggage. Take this as an opportunity to drive renewable energy by promoting it. If the grid does not support that develop infrastructure to accommodate the same.

NPP/JVP pledged to adhere to meritocracy. However, after they came to power, many of those appointed to top positions have resigned. In a short time only the JVP stooges will be left, all the others with backbones and experience in their fields having left. After that god help my country!

Many persons appointed to public enterprises by No Plan Pacha Party have severe conflicts of interests issues. There are so many examples like that. Now the corruption is at another level and is done by using more deceptive techniques like NPP campaigns.

His priority was looking after the CEB engineer's interest and private suppliers, ie the diesel mafia. Consumers' interest was just an afterthought. last year rainy season was prolonged the benefits of hydroelectricity was not passed on to the consumer very much
