Colombo, Feb. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Constitutional Council today approved Samudika Jayaratne as the new Auditor General.

An opposition member of the CC who did not wish to be named said they had to agree with Ms. Jayaratne as they had no other options.

Her name was rejected by the CC earlier.

Oops! The one who was previously rejected has now been appointed, as there was no other option. It is obvious that government involvement and influence have finally prevailed. No such allegations have been made against any government in the last 76 years, and we can only guess where, as a country, we are heading.

Aruni, We must not be prejudiced. Let us watch her for 6 months and then expose her if she is not up to the required mark. We have had Ministers in the past some without any university education who served us well and we also had Ministers well educated who were really corrupt

A person from outside should have been brought in. This is what NPP promised. Seniority is not the only criterion in appointments in developed countries. Without the best and efficient people how can SL develop? Better than in the past, but NPP is hesitant to make the bold calls IMO.

Sri Lanka's current opposition is nothing but a bunch of jokers. They previously rejected Samudika Jayarathne's name claiming she has involvements with frauds. Now they have voted for the approval of her appointment. This opposition works without any base and logic.
