Colombo, October 1 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has urged the public to report instances of food and beverages being sold at prices higher than the stated rates at restaurants where long-distance buses stop for tea. Reports can be made via the CAA’s “1977” SMS service.
The warning follows a complaint regarding overpriced items, including water bottles, at a restaurant in the Bendaluwa-Parakaduwa area. Officers from the Ratnapura District branch of the CAA conducted a raid and produced the restaurant owner before the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court, where a fine of Rs. 100,000 was imposed.
