Colombo, April 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched strict legal action against traders engaging in overpricing and failing to display price information in trains and railway station canteens.
All district officers have been instructed to conduct continuous raids and investigations across the country to address these violations and protect consumers.
As part of the ongoing operations, officers recently raided the canteen aboard the Colombo Fort-Batticaloa “Meenagaya” night train, where legal action is being taken against a trader for selling bottled water above the regulated price. A separate raid was also carried out today (09) at a canteen located at Maradana Railway Station.
The CAA said these nationwide operations will continue to take action against traders who exploit consumers by charging higher prices or failing to display price indices.
Members of the public who experience such incidents are encouraged to report them to the authorities.
The CAA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights and urged the public to lodge complaints via its hotline 1977 during office hours.
