CAA issues special gazette specifying directions for manufacturers, traders



A gazette notification was issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) while issuing special directions for specified manufacturers and traders subject to the conditions specified in the corresponding entries.

The gazette notification was issued according to special direction under section 10(1)(b)(ii) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 9 of 2003 
by the chairman of the CAA, Shantha Niriella, for the protection of the consumer.

Several conditions were introduced to be followed by the manufacturers and traders when manufacturing, importing, marketing, storing, selling and stocking.

Goods demanded by a consumer or any person should be supplied within a reasonable period and without delay.

A receipt or a bill in printed or electronic form should be issued to a consumer or any person containing details of the receipt or bill number, whether the transaction is retail or wholesale, date of sale, quantity of goods sold, class of goods sold, value of a unit of the goods sold, total value of the goods sold, batch number, if any, and name and address of a consumer or any person.

A duplicate of such receipt must be kept.

The instructions of the written notice issued by the CAA shall be followed in the event of any occurrence of any cause disrupting the manufacturing process. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
