CA suspends holding election for CMC and several other LG institutions

Colombo, April 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal today issued an interim injunction preventing any further steps from being taken over the Local Government elections for several Local Government institutions, including the Colombo Municipal Council.

This order was issued by the Court of Appeal upon allowing the hearing of writ petitions filed by several political parties and independent groups against the rejection of their nominations.

One can argue that government is purposely doing this for potentially institutions they may loose. So that they can keep these elections after gaining momentum from other institutions. Someone should take this matter to SC by getting a suspension on lower court rulings.

These political parties and Independent groups know very well they do not have a chance to win, and they do not dare to challenge in courts under the previous MR regime. Or are they paid agents of MR regime who has no chance of winning? This is Dog in the manger attitude. Is this the price of democracy?
