Colombo, March 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal extended its previous order to maintain the status quo for former Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) Director Neville de Silva in connection with the Weligama hotel shooting incident.
However, the extension does not apply to other petitioners involved in the case.
This writ application was filed recently to prevent his arrest, and after hearing submissions from President’s Counsel Eraj de Silva, who appeared on behalf of Neville de Silva, the Court of Appeal had earlier issued an order to maintain the status quo only concerning the former OIC of the CCD.
When the matter was taken up, Deputy Solicitor General Maheshika Silva appearing for the Attorney General objected to any extension of the undertaking. However, after considering the submissions made by the parties, Court of Appeal Justice Gihan Kulatunga extended the order maintaining the status quo for Neville de Silva, until the next date.
The extension of the order, however, was not granted in relation to the other petitioners, as the Matara Magistrate’s Court had already issued an order for their arrest.
The matter was fixed for support on March 26.
President’s Counsel Eraj de Silva with Daminda Wijayaratne, Harith Hettiarachchi, N.K. Ashokbharan, Sanjana Mapatuna, and Parami Gunawardena, instructed by Dimuthu Kuruppuarachchi appeared for the petitioner.
