Businesswoman nabbed at BIA with e-cigarettes worth Rs. 39.3 million

Colombo. Feb 04 (Daily Mirror) - A 32-year-old Sri Lankan businesswoman was arrested this morning by the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau officials for attempting to smuggle in a consignment of 262 electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) valued at Rs. 39.3 million into the country.

The arrest took place as she was attempting to take the stock of e-cigarettes out of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

The woman, a resident of Dematagoda, Colombo, arrived on Malaysia Airlines flight MH 179 from Kuala Lumpur at 2.35 a.m. Police officers found the 262 e-cigarettes, each containing 12,000 puffs in her luggage.

She was released on police bail and is scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate's Court on February 7.
