Businessman caught with local, foreign currency at BIA while attempting to smuggle to Dubai



A 27-year-old Colombo-based businessman was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning by customs officials while attempting to smuggle local and foreign currencies amounting to Rs. 14,060,000 million to Dubai, Customs Spokesman and Deputy Director (Legal) Sudatta Silva said.

The suspect came to the airport at 2.55 am to board a Dubai-bound Emirates Airlines.

The currency comprising of LKR 10 million and US$20,000 concealed in his travelling bag was detected by the customs officials at the airport departure terminal.
