Bus overturns in Haldummulla; Driver killed

Colombo, Jan. 18 (Daily Mirror) - A bus travelling from Colombo to Welimada overturned in the Uvathenna area of Haldummulla, resulting in the death of the driver, police said.

According to initial reports, the driver’s door was open when the bus reached the area and he attempted to close it. The bus then lost control, struck a nearby embankment and overturned on the road.

Three other passengers, including the bus conductor, a young child and a woman, were injured in the accident and have been admitted to hospital.

Police said one lane of the road has been blocked following the incident, and authorities are working to restore normal traffic as soon as possible.
