Bus fares likely to be increased

The bus fares will be increased due to the increase in the price of diesel last night, Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said today.

He said the percentage and the date of the fare increase will be decided at a meeting scheduled with the National Transport Commission (NTC) this afternoon.

Please consider the fuel price when the last revision was made, the change should be from that point. not from the yesterday's price.

Always increase the price at the drop of a hat,but to decrease it becomes an herculean task with so many excuses.The latest trend is conductors are telling passengers about to get down that they have not paid their fare or saying that fare was up to the last junction you have to pay for the next unit of travel.Get them to issue tickets without only talking rubbish.

It's high time the relevant minister took a firm decision not to accede to their request. When the diesel prices were reduced they were silent. Even at present fares, 95% of the conductors do not return the change if its below Rs.5/-. It's time the passengers stood firm by not paying the increased fares.
