Budget 2025 passed with amendments

Colombo, March 21 (Daily Mirror) - The third reading of the 2025 Budget was passed in Parliament with amendments by a majority of 114 votes a short while ago.

A total of 159 members voted in favour while 45 MPs voted against.

Congratulations. Please make sure that MPs disproportionate privileges are curtailed, and savings passed on to the under privileged citizens of the country, as promised in NPP election manifesto. Also confiscate illegally amassed wealth of the politicians, mafia and businessmen, impose punishments and collect all back tax from those that owe them to the government. Restore the treasury. Stop waste.

“Best budget in the history of Sri Lanka..”. How many times have we heard this…? It’s not a budget (or budgets) that makes a country my friend. It’s the process. It’s the commitment. It’s the policies. It’s the lasting solutions! This budget is good in the sense it’s not proposing excessive expenses. But our country in so much economic mire we don’t see the AKD government’s urgency. We don’t see his ministers working effectively. They say they work long hours but we don’t see good outcomes (like JRJ’s, or very recently like RW’s or even MR’s with all his other issues). We don’t see it attracting investments (instead what we see is driving them away e.g. Adani). That’s something you need to talk about. Not blindly praising someone out of loyalty.

It is in the history of Sri Lanka, that the opposition has to vote against the budget. However, much the Budget is well planned, the opposition is there to oppose. This only shows how many greedy political morons are there in the Parliament. It is the case, for the last so many years. This time people have pruned the opposition to the size of ants. Great !

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, WE NOW SEE THE OPPOSITION CANNOT BE TRUSTED AS THEY BROKE AWAY FROM UNP, ONLY TO TAKE TRAITORS WHO JUMPED FROM OTHER PARTY'S, THEN THEIR OWN MEMBERS DESERTING THEM AND TO TOP IT ALL SHAMELESSLY WENT INTO NEGOTIATIONS WITH RANIL/ALLIANCES BUT WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL.. I was flabbergasted when president was saying that the MP who becomes a minster get a pension for being a MP including the fuel allowance allocated to the MP position. Further he said that he came to know this he when he received a letter from the parliament. This position shows us clearly how politicians used their position to gain what ever they want according to their whims and fancies. They didn't care dam whether it is reasonable with regard to their actions. If this president never come to the presidency the position would have remain as it is making this country a paradise of rouges, while ordinary man is struggling to have a one square meal a day.Or god we escape at last.
