A major culprit in ruining the economy and the country. Still roaming free only possible in this thrice blessed country like no other. Elsewhere on this planet he must be in the prison. Ordinary persons are sentenced simply for causing damage to public property worth a pittance however causing billions of loss to the state has to cross many a maze for prosecution. This coterie must have profited by making commissions in million for agreeing to purchase worthless Greek bonds If Sujeewa had not gone to bribery commission nothing would have been done

The wheel has turned a full circle. The independence of the Bribery Commission is to be lauded. It is sad that on 18th September 2014, the Supreme Court dismissed the Fundamental Rights application filed by the Sam Sujeewa Senasinghe of Colombo 3 against the Monetary Board complaining that the Central Bank, in purchasing Greece Government Bonds, had acted in an unlawful, irresponsible and an arbitrary manner. The Supreme Court Bench presided by Justice K Sripavan, and comprising Justice R Marasinghe, and Justice Sarath de Abrew, unanimously concluded that: “Considering the totality of the circumstances, it is neither possible nor desirable to hold that the Members of the Monetary Board in taking a decision to invest in Greece Bonds, have acted arbitrarily, unreasonably and in a fraudulent manner.”

The bribery commission must also investigate the outcome of the KPMG report into inside dealings in the Central Bank during the period of the Governor. The report may have been buried in order to protect the then Governor and the beneficiaries. A proper examination of the report will no doubt conclude that there was significant shenanigans by the top brass of the central bank to benefit relatives.
