Bread up by Rs.20, others by Rs.10 from tonight: Bakery Owners’ Assn.

The price of a 450g loaf of bread will be increased by Rs. 20 from tonight, while other bakery items will go up by Rs.10, the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) said.

ACBOA President N.K. Jayawardena today said the decision was taken due to an increase of a kilogramme of wheat flour by Rs.32 from yesterday.

In the local market, a kilo of wheat flour, which was previously priced at Rs.84.50, now sold at more than Rs.300.

"The rupee value against the dollar does not exceed Rs.400, but the flour price has increased to Rs.300 in the local market and thereby the price of wheat flour has gone up by 400%," he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
