Branding Sri Lanka as a better tourist destination underway: Minister

This is the problem. We have way too many branding messages and over the last 15 years, how many campaigns have we done? Every time the government changes, so is our branding. Take Maldives for an example. Their campaigns are consistent and not more than 10 since 1982.

Sri Lankan airlines should reduce their high fares and introduce Sri Lanka as a destination in European countries and Australia . They are very expensive from Europe and hotels in Sri Lanka increased their prices but in Indonesia after covid hotels were told to encourage tourist and keep the prices down.

There is a clear opportunity to rebrand Sri Lanka, including the possibility of a name refresh to “Ceylon” or simply “Lanka,” and position the country as a safe, world-class, year round travel destination. This rebranding should emphasize Sri Lanka’s exceptional diversity lush jungles, pristine beaches, rich natural landscapes, wildlife, culture, heritage, and wellness experiences all available within a compact and easily accessible destination. By reinforcing a strong message of safety, sustainability, and hospitality, Sri Lanka can be promoted globally as a destination that offers adventure, relaxation, nature, and culture throughout the year, appealing to families, solo travelers, and luxury and eco-tourism markets alike.
