Colombo, Feb 13 (Daily Mirror) - A 29-year-old man from Puliyampokkanai in Kilinochchi, tragically ended his life after his girlfriend reportedly refused his Valentine's Day proposal to visit Jaffna together.

The deceased, who was deeply upset at home, was found in a well in the family's garden.

Police suspect the young man took his own life due to emotional distress stemming from the rejection.

The parents informed police that their son had been in a relationship and was heartbroken after his girlfriend not only declined his Valentine's Day plans but also scolded him.

The Dharmapuram Police are conducting further investigation into the incident.

As a woman, I am seeing signs of an abusive relationship where he was the victim. Scolding a boyfriend for suggesting a Valentine's Day trip to the point of suicide is extreme. Verbal abuse breaks the spirit. It happens over time and the last straw is when someone can't take it anymore. Hope the next man she meets will see red flags and flee. Men too must be strong and get away from abusive women. We always see the other way around and rarely give attention to abused men.

The girl was right to reject his proposal because he probably had ulterior motives on that day after taking the girl to Jaffna. If he was in a hurry then he should have expedited the marriage.

Life is more valuable than anything else in this world. I have a friend who is stressed because he was rejected twice by two different girls. He can't focus on anything because of this matter. I hope he will overcome it soon. Suicide is never the answer because no matter how bad things seem, they can and do get better. Pain is temporary, but ending your life takes away any chance of healing, happiness or new opportunities
