Boy injured after jumping from locked room; Police launch probe

Colombo, April 15 (Daily Mirror): The Keselwatta Police have launched an investigation after a 12-year-old boy, who was forcibly locked inside a two-storey house, jumped out of a window and sustained serious injuries.

The child, along with two other neighbourhood children, had gone to a nearby shop when he reportedly knocked on the gate of a three-storey house nearby.

A resident of the house forcibly took the child inside and locked him in a room on the second floor.

The child is currently receiving treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo.

Police said a 59-year-old man who assisted in the incident has been arrested, while the home owner has fled.

Shocking incident!!, the home owner and the guy who assisted him in locking up the boy must be brought before a court of law without delay and questions asked if there were any shops or sales outlets in the house or outside to establish from the boys point of view as to why he knocked on a door that was not usually a shop or house selling anything in or outside which may establish if the home owner was carrying on a business without registration. in any case locking up the boy in a room upstairs is unacceptable even as a punishment, as it may have been a accidental mistake by the boy or a prank that doesn't deserve locking him up by force. if I a majority of us was the home owner we would give the boy a warning or go and speak to his parents, locking him up by force is unacceptable. the govt, must call on Not For Profit orgs to have gathering in all towns and villages together with a govt official to spread the word, so that people are aware of options on how to handle incidents.

Child or adult, the people in the house kidnapped a person, and doing so to a child makes it worse. It is for official legally empowered organisations to stop crimes against children and adult. Vigilante Not for Profits against criminals targeting children are not needed here. Not for Profits can protest, but who the hell has time and money to pay them for that. If the criminals who kidnapped the child go on bail and court case drags on for 20 years, then it is failure of government and judges, and crimes against children will increase.
