Body of abducted Chinese national found in Eheliyagoda

Colombo, July 23 (Daily Mirror) - The body of a Chinese national, suspected to have been abducted and murdered by a group of fellow Chinese nationals at the Colombo Port City, has been discovered hidden in a forest area in Karandana, Eheliyagoda.

According to police, three Chinese nationals had arrived in a cab at the Colombo Port City early this morning for fishing. Shortly after, another group of Chinese nationals arrived at the location in two vehicles and launched a violent assault on them.

During the confrontation, the attackers abducted one of the Chinese men and fled the scene. However, they abandoned one of their vans behind, inside of which police later recovered an air pistol.

The body was discovered by chance when a team from the Eheliyagoda Police was conducting a raid on illegal liquor in the Karandana Gettukade area.

Police officers noticed a suspicious pile of rocks in a nearby jungle. Upon inspecting the site after spotting a human hand protruding from the stones, officers unearthed the body.

The deceased was subsequently confirmed to be the Chinese national who had been abducted from the Port City earlier in the day. The body was transferred to the Avissawella Hospital this afternoon for post-mortem analysis and further forensic investigations.

A car discovered near the location where the body was hidden is believed to have been used by the suspects to transport the victim.

Police said that two Chinese suspects attempting to flee the island were arrested at the Katunayake International Airport accordingly. They have been handed over to the Foreshore Police for further questioning.
