BASL election Today: Lawyers to elect new President

Colombo, Feb 19 (Daily Mirror) - The election for the post of President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) for the year 2025-2026 will be held today (19).  

Today’s election is expected to be a contest between two candidates, former BASL Secretaries Rajeev Amarasuriya and Dr. Sunil Abeyaratne.

BASL Secretary Attorney-at-Law Chathura Galhena said that the necessary arrangements have been made to hold the election in 91 Bar Association centres across the country.

“About 21,000 registered lawyers are eligible to vote at this election, which is scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” the BASL Secretary said.

Solicitor General  Viraj Dayaratne, PC will function as the returning officer for the BASL election to elect its 29th President.
