Colombo, Oct. 15 (Daily Mirror) - Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake, President of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court Bar Association, was released on bail today over allegations of verbally abusing and threatening a police officer who was on duty within the court premises.

The lawyer appeared before the court this evening.

The Magistrate ordered that the suspect be released on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.

He further directed that if the suspect attempts to influence or intimidate any witnesses, his bail would be revoked.

Additionally, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to appear before the Western Province South Crimes Division by 9 a.m. tomorrow to record a statement.

Now the law is for everyone, nobody is above the law, this idiot made the country disgraceful, he needs to pay for that. The Bar association should take action and cancel his license, not allowing him to practice

So many professionals including chair persons of various bodies come to the courts, but they know how behave in the court. Unfortunately this guy “ the chair person of Bar Association “ doesn’t know how to behave in the court premises.

More than 60% of these legal officers behave in very illegal ways. If proven guilty, should be unbarred. Our Judiciary require big changes.
