Attempted nightclub shooting foiled in Kollupitiya

Colombo, July 20 (Daily Mirror) - An attempted shooting targeting an underworld gang member at a nightclub in the Kollupitiya area was thwarted when security personnel at the venue intervened and attacked the assailants.

According to police, two gunmen had arrived on a motorcycle with a T56 assault rifle, intending to carry out a targeted killing. However, confronted by nightclub security, the suspects abandoned both the firearm and the motorcycle and fled the scene.

The Western North Crime Division recovered the T56 weapon, along with 25 rounds of live ammunition and a magazine, which were left behind at the club premises.

The motorcycle used by the suspects was later handed over to the Kollupitiya Police by the nightclub staff.

Both the Kollupitiya Police and the Western North Crime Division have launched further investigations into the incident.
