Athletes return home with 11 medals

The Sri Lanka athletics team, which concluded a successful tour by winning 11 medals at the Thailand Open Athletic Championship 2025, is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka today. The meet was held in Bangkok from June 21 to 25.

The Sri Lankan team, consisting of eight athletes (four men and four women), won six gold medals, four silver medals and one bronze medal. Rusiru Chathuranga - 800m (Men) and 1,500m (Men), V. Vakshan – 5,000m (Men), W. K. L. A. Nimali - 800m (Women), Madushani Herath - long jump (Women) and triple jump (Women) won gold medals while Ayomal Akalanka - 400m hurdles (Men) V. Vakshan -1,500m (Men) W. K. L. A. Nimali – 1,500m (Women), Wathsala Hapuarachchi won silver medals in the 100m hurdles (Women). In addition, Safreen Ahmed won a bronze medal in the triple jump (Men).

The only athlete who failed to win a medal among the athletes was Amasha de Silva. She finished fourth in the Women’s 100m final.
