This is normal in Sri Lanka where investigations on minorities are involved. A totally incompetent Police consisting mainly of yakkos are only experts in hench-aiya and robbing the country.

Don't make every problem in this country a minority problem. Judicial inefficiency is impacting all Sri Lankans. Lets agitate together to improve judicial efficiency. 2006 matter taking till 2023 (17 years) is not acceptable.

Will they get compensation for wrongful arrest

Can the president and Justice Minister come out with an immediate KPI based plan to ensure that all court cases that have languished for longer than 10 years will be concluded by 31st Dec 2024 and that no case will languish for a period more than 5 years after 31st Dec 2025. And as a parallel activity automate the judiciary with a case management system. Get the courts to start sharp at 8.30am and to continue till 4pm (pay overtime if you have to) but have a plan of action. Increase cadre, reduce the court holiday duration, mandate gap between next hearing dates cannot exceed xx days, think of some solutions.

It wasn't wrongful arrest and neither was it about arresting minorities. Essentially the police was incompetent in proving their case and a majority of the minorities are known for public disorder and terrorist activities in any case.
