Colombo, Jan. 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo High Court today ordered the recall of the arrest warrant issued on former Minister Wimal Weerawansa after he surrendered to court through his counsel.
The case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), alleging that the former Minister had unlawfully acquired assets valued at over Rs. 75 million, was taken up before the Colombo High Court this morning.
When the case was initially called, the accused was not present in court. Consequently, Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal issued a warrant directing the arrest of Weerawansa and his production before court.
Subsequently, the former Minister appeared before court through his counsel, following which the High Court ordered that the arrest warrant be recalled.
Further proceedings in the case are to be taken up on a later date.
