Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga imposed a travel ban on Sudarshana Fernando, former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Harbour Corporation. The Magistrate also ordered the Immigration Department to arrest the suspect upon arrival in the country.

The Bribery Commission informed the court that an investigation is underway into allegations that Fernando had misused his position to recruit his associates to high-ranking posts within the Corporation, bypassing the standard recruitment procedures, an act deemed as corruption.

The CIABOC also told court that the suspect was earlier summoned to appear before the Commission, but however he had travelled to the United Kingdom. Since he holds dual citizenship in Sri Lanka and the UK, the Commission requested a court order directing the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to arrest him upon arrival in Sri Lanka and produce him before the Commission.

The Chief Magistrate imposed a travel ban on suspect and instructed the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to arrest him upon entry into the country and produce him before the Bribery Commission.

What a joke? On the same grounds AKD has also appointed so many of his friends into high ranking positions. That so called free service man Sri Lankans Airlines Chairman has got many business class tickets free for his and his family, friends travel costing millions of Rupees to tax payers. He is getting these benefits in addition to his full time job with Dhammika Perera, pohotuwa potential Presidential candidate.

Dr TF Main thing is not to worry. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. The path is shown by the present government how appointments must be made. So if the present government repeat what is now shown as corrupt practices the government that will succeed the present one day can take action arresting all the corrupt

This is an easy case. Since he’s a dual citizen, the government lawyer should file a case against him in the UK. If he keeps hiding, he’ll have to hide for the rest of his life.

If he is a UK citizen, he will not return. Most likely the UK Government will not send him either, as they have obligation to protect the citizens. Same as Arjuna Mahendran case.

Why in the world are dual citizens appointed to government corporations or anywhere in government services? They only have to sense the law might be after them after fiddling public funds or other misdemeanours and can vanish back to their second motherland with impunity. Important point here is, they do not need a Visa! It's a 50/50 chance of ever bringing him to book, via Interpol etc., as once in UK he can escape to just about anywhere.
