Army donates laptops to university students

Colombo, August 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Directorate of Welfare of the Sri Lanka Army conducted a special donation programme at Army headquarters to provide laptops to government university students who are children of serving Army personnel.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. During the ceremony, a total of 57 laptops were distributed to the students.

This initiative aims to support the academic aspirations of the children of serving members by providing them with essential technological resources to help them excel in their studies.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and parents of the beneficiaries were present at the event.

All this is tax payers money, which should be done by University Grant Commission or Higher Education Ministry, not by the Army.

It would have been of value to the public if this reporter found out the criteria for deciding on the recipients. That will reveal the transparency and equity advocated by the NPP.

Where has the money come from? It can be considered a donation if the money was from personal funds of soldiers, but if it has come from the taxpayer that is neither a donation or an acceptable act
