Arjuna Ranatunga removed as Harin appoints new National Sports Council



Colombo (Daily Mirror) - Sports Minister Harin Fernando, in accordance with powers vested with him under the Sports Act, has appointed a new Sports Council headed by Dr. Maiya Gunasekera replacing its former chairman Arjuna Ranatunga. 

 I.U. Wickramasuriya has been appointed as the secretary of the Council.

Other members of the Council include former athlete Sriyani Kulawansa, Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti, Professor Arjuna de Silva, Panduka Keerthinanda, Ana Punchihewa, Malik Kader, Dr. S.V.D. Nananayakkara, Hafeez Marso, former Sri Lankan cricketer Sidath Wettimuny, General Jagath Jayasooriya, Anuradha Illeperuma, Prof. Shemal Fernando and former cricket commentator Kamal Deshapriya.

Meanwhile, the National Sports Selection Committee is headed by General Shavendra Silva while Arjun Silva has been appointed as the Secretary. Other members of the committee are Dr. Maiya Gunasekera, Suresh Subramanium and Nalinda Sampath Ilangakoon.
