Archchuna demands more fuel for MPs

Colombo, March 17 (Daily Mirror) - Independent MP Ramanathan Archchuna raised concerns, claiming that the fuel quota of 15 litres is not sufficient for Parliamentarians who come from outstations to attend Parlaimentary sessions.

He told Parliament that he gets only 15 litres of petrol to come to Parliament all the way from Jaffna.

"I will have to stay in Anuradhapura and come to Colombo the following week with this fuel quota," he said.

Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne said the matter has been forwarded to the Secretary General of Parliament and that the House will be informed once the response is received.

But if a person has the means to travel comfortably, he should be allowed. Just because train and buses exists doesnt mean he cant use his personal transport. Dont get me wrong, I dont like the man, but then there are other MPs travelling from North, South and East to attend parliament sittings. I agree with the comment below this though. Online Parliamentary sittings should be implemented. Save a bunch of cost.

This should be considered a blessing in disguise as taking public transport gives one a lot of opportunities to meet, discuss and then present public's concerns in the parliament and build one's image and popularity. At least he will get matters to discuss in the parliment rather than his usual loose talk.
