Archchuna agitated over introducing LGBTQ tourism

Colombo, Sept. 26 (Daily Mirror) - Jaffna District MP Ramanathan Archchuna was seen agitated over the decision to promote Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) tourism in Sri Lanka, while calling it is absurd for the government to act against corporal punishment while promoting LGBTQ.

He told Parliament that Sri Lanka had some dignity in the world and said that now, it has become an LGBTQ country.

"We will be able to see some funny things in the front rows in Parliament. This is a Buddhist country where all Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil communities lived peacefully. Now, it has become LGBTQ country," he said.

"In the future our President, Prime Minister can promote LGBTQ by posting videos. Our country has some dignity in the world. Sri Lanka is considered the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. We promote LGBTQ and voice against corporal punishment," he said.

Those who strongly oppose the LGBTQ movement usually have gay tendencies of which they are deeply disturbed and ashamed. That's some psychology for you:) Next time, when you feel strongly against something, look within and try to understand why you feel the way feel.

As in all countries that value Religion over Ethics. Isn't ir appropriate to revise the teachings that everyone is equal to live with freedom as they choose. You choose religion. Its a choice. As it is for those who do not. Forcing your moral views is just that.

we also have been silently tolerating many other vices. So why not legalise them too?. Sometimes silence is better than openly encouraging as we may have to redefine many a thing including prostitution. The Government must pay it's attention to other livelihood problems rather than satisfying the NPP's own.

We don’t need to promote anything specific. Let people of all genders etc come and go as they have been for years. We don’t have to make Sri Lanka a niche destination. Otherwise, it might prevent a variety of more mainstream and family orientated tourism. Let’s keep Sri Lanka true to her cultural beliefs, welcome all types and respect the differences. That should be adequate.

Marketing Sri Lanka like this will only risk alienating thousands from visiting here. It’s not worth it! This is a stupid idea. Also, this will unleash tourists with a liberal hedonistic lifestyle that will clash with our rich heritage. What people do behind closed doors is one thing, but in the open public domain is quite different. It will cause trouble to locals and tourist families.

Members of the LGBQT community already visit Sri Lanka. So, what’s new? The problem with promoting all sexual orientations openly like this opens the floodgates to less desirable “orientations”like paedophiles! Our children have already suffered from tourist paedophile rings. This will only get worse, and we will experience the same sleeze that permeates Thailand. Go there and see it for yourselves. Is that what you want for Sri Lanka?

This isn't a Western country. LGBTQ identities are becoming more accepted. But promoting them for tourism could create serious issues with locals.Therefore, I agree with Archchuna on this matter.

This is the worse project that is about to be implemented which will have untold repercussions and looking back into history Sodomy was never encouraged in any era it was disaster to say the least and citing from great religions this brings into rememberance the Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah where every human being was destroyed. Although Sri Lanka is striving hard to straighten out in areas we have faced disaster in the economy this is the last straw that will ignite the Fire to come!!!!!!
