Approval must for UNPers to participate in media talk shows

Colombo, August 28 (Daily Mirror) - UNPers will not be allowed to participate in media talk shows without the approval of party General Secretary Thalatha Athukorala, an official statement said today.

The statement which has been issued by Ms. Athukorala said her approval is needed for any party member to participate in media talk shows while she will name who should participate.

"The party will not be responsible for the utterance of those who participate in talk shows without approvals" the statement added.

@ Dee - Timely? The damage has already done. Just look at the election results. Unless the UNP is purged of all these types (including Thalatha who jumped back in only recently), approval or non approval for media talk shows mean nothing. The UNPs problems are deeper because the policies are all ancient and built on deception with habitual arrogance.

Excellent directive. Now, what would you do if they do not follow it? NPP, with a few exceptions, appears to be doing the same. The 'Rambo' attitude in politics, which seeks to gain notoriety, needs to stop. Lihini Fernando's criticism and interpretation of the law is a good example that comes to my mind.

Is there any remaining faction under the name UNP that warrants an invitation to the talk show? If so, what relevant discourse could they possibly contribute? The general public widely perceives the party once known as UNP to be defunct—politically dead and long consigned to history.
