Applications open for National Police Commission: Here is how to apply

Colombo, July 20 (Daily Mirror) - The Constitutional Council has called for fresh applications from qualified individuals to be considered for appointment as Members of the National Police Commission (NPC), with vacancies existing in the Commission and one additional vacancy expected to arise.

The Council said that applications are being accepted for recommendation to the posts of Members of the National Police Commission. Interested applicants are required to submit their applications using the prescribed application form available on the Parliament of Sri Lanka website under the "Quick Access" section through the link titled "Recommendation to the post of Member of the National Police Commission."

The deadline for submitting completed applications is July 31, 2026. Applications can be sent either by registered post or by email to the Constitutional Council Office at Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.

Applicants submitting applications by post have been instructed to clearly mention "Recommendation to the post of Member of the National Police Commission" on the top left-hand corner of the envelope. Those submitting applications via email should use the same wording as the email subject line and send their applications to ([email protected]).

The term of office of the National Police Commission ended on May 15. However, officials have stated that the present members will continue to serve in their respective positions until new members are appointed to the Commission.

The three-year term of Sri Lanka's National Police Commission officially ended on May 15, 2026. To ensure administrative continuity, the outgoing members, chaired by retired Supreme Court Judge Lalith Ekanayake, are continuing to carry out their duties until the Constitutional Council officially appoints a new commission.
