Colombo, October 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Court of Appeal today fixed October 23 for the delivery of the judgment regarding two writ petitions challenging the legality of the Returning Officers of the Kekirawa and Galnewa Pradeshiya Sabhas in implementing their letters requesting the nomination of women members for the seats obtained by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) under the proportional representation system at the Kekirawa and Galnewa Pradeshiya Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal further extended its interim orders staying the Commissioner General of Elections from naming the women members for the seats obtained by the Samagi Jana Balawagaya (SJB) on the basis of proportional representation at the Kekirawa and Galnewa Pradeshiya Sabha elections until the next date.
Court of Appeal Justice Gihan Kulatunga made this order pursuant to two writ petitions filed by several SJB candidates for the Local Government elections.
Senior Counsel Sandamal Rajapakse with Counsel Kalpanee Dissanayake and Harsha Mendis instructed by Sachintha Rodrigo appeared for the petitioners.
