Anura Karunathilaka assumes duties as Energy Minister



Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka today assumed duties as the Minister of Energy at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Energy premises.

The event was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Energy M.R.D. Aponsu, along with Deputy Minister of Energy Ilyas Muhammadu Arkam and Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku. Former Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody was also present.

Following the assumption of duties, the Minister held a brief discussion with heads of institutions operating under the Ministry.

Addressing the occasion, Minister Karunathilaka said that the previous Minister, Deputy Minister and officials had already implemented appropriate plans, particularly in response to the ongoing challenges in the energy sector amid the crisis situation linked to the war in the Middle East.

He said he was committed to continuing and strengthening those initiatives while ensuring that the needs of the public are met effectively.

The Minister also called on the media to act responsibly in reporting on the energy sector, urging them to communicate accurate information to the public and help maintain public confidence in the country’s energy supply.
