Antonov An-124, the world’s second-largest cargo aircraft landed at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) for the ninth time this morning, MRIA media unit said.
They said the cargo aircraft was being refuelled and that its crew was resting.
The aircraft which arrived from the Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan landed at MRIA at 10.07 a.m and scheduled to leave for Port Hedland Airport in Australia at 10.15 p.m. tomorrow,” he said.
He said 19 crew members were on the flight.
“About 109,000 litres of jet fuel was refuelled for the flight,” he said.
The An-124 is the second largest aircraft in the world, specifically designed for carrying heavy and bulky loads.
It is equipped with a high volume of cargo capacity, drive-on loading ramps and a variety of built-in freight handling equipment.
The An-124 was designed for long-range delivery and air-dropping heavy or bulky cargo, including machines, equipment and troops.
Earlier, the world's largest cargo aircraft Antonov An-225 Mriya landed at MRIA on April 19.(Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Better than storing paddy. So there is some potential in this place and one big power has identified it. Hope the authorities are alert on what is loaded and unloaded.

Why is this? The purpose of an airport... is to facilitate aeroplanes, however in our land when a flight lands in an airport it becomes news? Why?
