Colombo, May 6 (Daily Mirror) - In another misidentification of Ishara Sewwandi, who is wanted over the murder of Ganemulle Sanjeewa at the Colombo Magistrate's Court, a woman bearing the same name has been arrested today by the Kuliyapitiya police.
Interrogations revealed that though her name was Ishara Sewwandi, she was not the woman with the identical name wanted in connection with the murder. She had been arrested on information provided by the Kuliyapitiya Land Registry when she called over at the land registry to obtain a copy of a deed.
The officers who examined her identity card found that she was from Kimbulapitiya in Katana, the area of residence of the suspect woman as well.
However, after comparing the photos of the suspect woman received from the Colombo Crimes Investigation Division and several other institutions, with that of the woman taken in for questioning, police were convinced that she was not the suspect.
She told the media that the police questioned her very courteously and that she cooperated with the investigations.
HQI Kuliyapitiya Police Kamal Ratnayake, and IP Savitri Sirimanna conducted the investigations on the instructions of ASP Wasantha Herath.
