Colombo, May 23 (Daily Mirror) - The Chief Incumbent of the Sri Mangalarama Viharaya in Batticaloa, Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thera has been arrested by the Ampara Police.

The Thera was arrested for unruly behaviour at the Uhana police station.

The Thera has behaved unruly after a suspect wanted by the Uhana police was arrested.

just saw the video clip of what happend at the plice station...it was very unfortunate to hear a Buddhist monk has been arrested but he police officers were very much restraint and patient for their maximum and they had no other choice for the thero's behaviour...these kind of unruly behaviour cannot be tolerated at a police station by anyone and even the suspect raises voice while in custody against the police officers...we must salute to that police officers and appreciate him for his brave efforts to restore law and order....

this is what we lack in our country - RESPECT FOR THE RULE OF LAW and abuse of the FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION and lack of religion of reason now tantamount to LUNACY to bring about a sense of decorum in society. The Buddhist monk is given the highest respect by every one in our country to the extent that even a bus seat is reserved and the monk should be ashamed that a law enforcement authority had to arrest him. This culture did not originate in 1948 but introduced 48 years ago by leaders who thought they were God almighty and enriched themselves brought to nought by the BUDDHIMATH JANATHAWA if not the 76 years old DOOKAY DUPPATH at the recent not one but three elections who are intelligently outnumbered in debate in the chessboard assembly by the so called - "L" BOARD GOVT
