Ami Upul shot dead in Ragama gun attack

A man identified as Ami Upul, a known associate of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa, was shot dead in a gun attack in the Batuwatte area of Ragama last night (3), police said.

According to police, two unidentified assailants arrived on a three-wheeler and opened fire at a person inside a house located on Batuwatte Rural Development Road, before fleeing the scene.

The victim, identified as a 45-year-old former army soldier and a resident of Batuwatte, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ami Upul had close links with criminal elements in the area. Ragama Police are conducting further investigations to apprehend the suspects and determine the motive behind the shooting.
