Colombo, April 10 (Daily Mirror) - Ambassador Kananathan former HighCommissioner in Kenya has been invited as one of the international election observers for the upcoming Presidential elections in Gabon, scheduled for 12 April 2025. These landmark elections will be the first to take place since the end of the Bongo dynasty, which was overthrown in a historic 2023 coup after 56 years of rule.
The observer mission for Gabon’s 2025 elections includes prominent international organizations and leaders. Among them, the Commonwealth Observer Group will be led by His Excellency Danny Faure, former President of Seychelles. The West African regional bloc ECOWAS will also be present as part of the observer coalition, underlining the significance of the elections in ensuring democratic transition and political stability in the region.
Ambassador Kananathan brings a wealth of experience to the mission, having previously served as an election observer in multiple African nations, including Kenya, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Liberia, and Senegal. .
As Gabon prepares for a new political chapter, the presence of respected international observers is expected to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process and support the country’s transition to a more inclusive democratic system.
