Indian tourists are driving growth in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, accounting for nearly one-third of all new arrivals in the first four months of the year, according to data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
Between January and April, Sri Lanka welcomed 112,233 new tourists, with 33,476 originating from India. This represents a significant 29.82 percent share of new tourist arrivals, nearly doubling India’s current overall contribution to Sri Lanka’s tourism, which stands at 15.75 percent. This strong showing indicates that Indian travellers are a key factor in the tourism growth observed so far this year.
In April alone, Sri Lanka recorded 38,744 tourist arrivals from India, making up 22.2 percent of the total for the month. This is a notable increase from April of the previous year, which saw 27,304 Indian arrivals representing an 18 percent share. (NF)
