Why does former President Maithripala Sirisena stage protests against paddy mafia when all the culprits behind controlling paddy trade are in Polonnaruwa, All Ceylon Farmers Federation Convener Namal Karunaratne questioned.

While at an event yesterday, he said former president's brother is one of the main figure who leads the paddy mafia lives in Polonnaruwa.

Sirisena supported this government to remain in power, and the incumbent agriculture minister represents his party, the SLFP.

"As all those who are involved in the paddy mafia are based in Polonnaruwa. It is much easy to solve this issue. This is the government which is created by them. Alhough Mr. Sirisena is not in this government, the current Agriculture Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera, is one of his party leaders. There is nothing to say more. See how many members of his party are in this government?" he raised a question.

So holding placards during picketing is absurd. You have become a laughing stock of not only the farmers, the entire citizenry, especially the youth, Karunaratne said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

The corruption with behind closed doors has been happening now for decades. Payments made for politician campaign during election means the MPs loyalty to cartel/mafia was bought already last election. The MPs self-serving pushing for country to have rice self-sufficiency gives opportunity for this paddy pricing cartel to call the shots. Allowing for unrestricted rice imports will scare them into putting pricing competitively instead of pricing at highest point consumer can bear.

See how the nature / universe works. Major part of population brought a president for their own benefit. And the same people brought by them are stabbing their stomach now. No rise (for reasonable price), no fuel, No medicine, no fertilizers etc etc ………… If not they understand the really now and prioritize humanity over other illusional aspects such as cast, color and religion, they never going to…..
