Air France to operate three Colombo-Paris flights weekly

After resuming operations between Colombo-Paris flights from Charles de Gaulle airport yesterday (4), Air France will operate three flights a week to Colombo.

Air France operations on this route are seasonal and as per the winter schedule for 2022-2023.

People from Colombo can further connect to the global network of Air France comprising of over 170 destinations, via the convenient hub of Paris' Charles de Gaulle, the airline said.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will fly on this route with 297 seats including 30 Business class, 21 in Premium Economy and 228 in Economy class seats, they said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

It is a great opportunity for Srilankan tourism industry. The persons who are engaged in the tourism industry can get some sort of consolation through the arrivals of the european tourists.

Yes yes hambantota is a white elephant but travel agencies should try to make lucrative cheap travel tours and itinerary which aims at the east of sri lanka. Let them have travellers come to enjoy the nature, booze, weed, village life, or even something similar to thailand but make some use of that white elephant airport. Even if it starts with loses, western people have their freaky nature and give the east of sri lanka to turn their freak on. Western people will be the best word of mouth and advertise the east of sri lanka and maybe in couple of years, that white elephant airport could make a change. To succeed for sri lanka we need to come out of our comfort zone. Stop trying to follow a 2600 culture which the majority of sinhala dont even follow, just false appearances. Cross the line and make that white elephant work somehow!

All fake news. No tourists will arrive on these flights 3 times weekly as if they have no other places to go ? After the fist two weeks they will cease to operate, reason not enough passengers.

This is good however what is the impact on Sri Lankan Airlines considering the limited tourist arrivals? Even if other airlines come several times a week unless there is a demand, one cannot assume a spike in arrivals that warrant another airline operating this sector. Winter in France does not mean everyone is coming to Sri Lanka. There are other countries that offer much better value for money especially for families, like Malaysia and Dubai. Most "tourists" that come to Sri Lanka are the Lankan diaspora that stay with family. There is no worthwhile shopping to do or any kind of family-oriented entertainment other than eating in restaurants.
