Social Activist Lahiru Weerasekera had been arrested by the police over an investigation over obstructing duties of police officers.

Police said Weerasekera was arrested for obstructing the duties of police during a protest on August 30 in Maradana.

Politicians bankrupt The country and it happened for first time in the history!! Then the country turned into living hell as there was no food no water no electricity no Milk powder no gas no fuel no Medicine!! And people exercise their democratic rights by peaceful protests!! When all settled Ranil arresting illegally one by one activists apparently for peaceful protesting!! What kind of hypocrisy is this!???

Hands off the people who were and will be protesting against the fact the masses are suffering, starving, lack of medicines and the likes. All those who were and are responsible for the country's present situation, should be brought before a Court Of Law and dealt with accordingly. First it was people disappearing after being taken in white vans, now hit men on motor cycles!! Concerned Citizen

You must be dreaming . RW has enough public support to make sure he can’t be toppled , AND it’s growing . That’s the only reason that the aragalaya disbanded. They never anticipated RW to have the kind of public support he got after being rkdcted as the new president. So they had no other choice than cancel the aragalaya because the moment RW took over , sections of society , including some segments that formed the aragalaya, started supporting him. It’s not because suppression that the aragalaya is docile these days . It’s due to lack of support . RW on the other hand is gaining in popularity every day , and it’s only in your dream he can be removed through an uprising . Now it’s time to join the global arahalaya between the western styled democracies that form the “free world “ and the sino/Russian styled autocracies who are intent on the continuance and spreading of a suppressive genre of governance sans globalization, free trade and free market economics.

This should have been done many months ago. Gota failed. Ranil learned from that and did it. Gota and Rajapaksa family have been lenient with these hooligans who did "NOT" respect the "Rule-of-Law" and took the law to their hands. The country needs "DISCIPLINE" in all matters and Politics. people exercise their democratic rights ?? Social activist. my foot. Fund lines are exposed. Unbelievable. Samantha Powers in town to take a count? There was a hidden hand and a hidden agenda. Similar was trialed in Hong Kong by the West/Church/some in in business community. there were hired thugs too. Why don't USA/UK/Canada open doors to these so called SL Activists similarly to the HK Activist who faced prosecution?
