Acting IGP orders probe into Wadduwa man’s death after police bail

Colombo, Feb 12 (Daily Mirror) - The Acting IGP has directed the Panadura Crimes Investigation Division to probe the death of a man from Wadduwa, who reportedly died after being released on police bail.

Around 40 people gathered outside the Wadduwa Police station last night, protesting against the police, accusing them of beating and killing a father of one.

The deceased, a resident of Thalpitiya, Wadduwa, died after vomiting blood following his release on bail, they alleged.

Residents gathered outside the police station demanding justice for the victim and his family.

To manage the situation, a group of officers was called in from surrounding stations, including Bandaragama, Pinwatta, Moronthuduwa, and Hirana.

Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga said that the Acting IGP had instructed the Panadura SSP to initiate an investigation.

He also said that a post-mortem will be conducted today, and if scientific evidence confirms the victim was beaten inside the police station, strict action will be taken against the responsible officers.
